Melasma- etiology

  1. Genetic (predominates in Skintypes III-VI)
  2. Hormonal
       Oral Contraceptives
       HRT
       Women’s wellness supplements that have DHEA and other ‘hormone behaving ingredients’

Treatment of Melasma

   ☐ SPF/ UV avoidance
   ☐ Hormonal evaluation
   ☐ Hydroquinone as monotherapy but also in combination with other topicals
   ☐ Chemical peeling
   ☐ Microdermabrasion
